How to Get There

El Paredon Surf Camp is located on the South Coast of Guatemala, on the department of Escuintla, inside the Sipacate-Naranjo National Park, at only 2 hours driving from Guatemala City (the capital) or La Antigua (every foreigner's base). To be a bit more specific, our coordenates are (in case you get lost...) Latitude 13.9330 North Longitude 91.0830 West And our Time Zone is GMT-6 (in case you lose track of time... In case you don't know, Guatemala shares borders with Mexico (north and west), Belice, El Salvador and Honduras (to the east). This means that we are in Central America, which is part of the American Continent, which at the same time is part of the World, and so on... Any questions? El Paredon Surf Camp can be reached using both public transportation as well as our shuttle service or by driving your own vehicle. IN ANY CASE,YOU HAVE TO NOTIFY US AND RECEIVE OUR CONFIRMATION PRIOR TO YOUR ARRIVAL for us to make the required arrangements. If not, you might find the camp completely booked, which might be a big disappointment, since there is no other place in the village to overnight.

1. SHUTTLE SERVICE: Our vehicle provides door-to-door round trip service, both from La Antigua or from Guatemala City. Each way takes some two hours. If needed we also provide shuttle service from anywhere in Guatemala and El Salvador.

2.PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION FROM LA ANTIGUA: Buses leave from La Antigua (backside of the market) at 07:00 a.m. with intervals of one hour and head to Escuintla, capital of the department with the same name. The bus companies that take you there are Transportes Ruiz and Dorita. When you pay your ticket, ask the driver's assistant to drop you off at the station where the buses depart to Sipacate. This first part of the journey takes some 1-½ hours. There are several bus companies that cover the route Escuintla-Sipacate, and generally they stop for some 30 minutes at the towns known as Siquinalá and La Gomera, before reaching Sipacate. As usual ask the driver's assistant to drop you off at the Texaco gas station in Sipacate and take a tuk-tuk or mini cab to the point known as El Escondite (this second part of the journey takes some two hours). Reaching El Escondite from Sipacate takes some 5 minutes and the road is not paved, but well maintained. El Escondite is a very small public pier on the shores of one small channel, part of the bigger Chiquimulilla Channel. Leave the tuk-tuk at this point (you can't miss it, because the road finishes at this place) and take the public boat that goes to El Paredon, which takes some 10 minutes. Ask the boat driver to leave you at the CHICONES' pier. From there walk two blocks into town and then turn right, walk another 30 meters and the last property on your left side is our camp. Once at the camp ask for Olivia and she will get you into the mood. REMEMBER TO BOOK YOUR SPACE AT THE CAMP FIRST.

3. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION FROM LAKE ATITLAN: In whichever town you are located, you have to either take a boat or a bus (whatever is easiest) and head to San Lucas Toliman. From there you can take a bus to Cocales (this is just an intersection at highway CA2, but a good point of reference). From Cocales take another bus to Siquinala, and from here another bus to Sipacate. Ask the driver’s assistant to drop you off at the Texaco gas station in Sipacate and take a tuk-tuk or mini cab to the point known as El Escondite. Reaching El Escondite from Sipacate takes some 5 minutes and the road is not paved, but well maintained. Once at the camp ask for Radar, Olivia or Adolfo and they will get you into the mood. REMEMBER TO BOOK YOUR SPACE AT THE CAMP FIRST.

4.PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION FROM GUATEMALA: First take a cab from wherever you are to the bus terminal known as EL TREBOL, which is basically a big car intersection. Ask the taxi driver to drop you off at the ESMERALDA bus station, located on the south-west side of the intersection. Make sure you board the bus that goes to SIPACATE (this should take some 5 hours). Ask the driver's assistant to drop you off at the Texaco gas station in Sipacate and take a tuk-tuk or mini cab to the point known as El Escondite. Reaching El Escondite from Sipacate takes some 5 minutes and the road is not paved, but well maintained.
